The term “digital manufacturing” summarizes a number of different manufacturing processes, whose formative commonality lies in the underlying computer-aided production processes. With this in mind, the Green FabLab at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with its mechanical equipment, aims to offer a view through the keyhole into an Industry 4.0 manufacturing facility. There, too, the areas of CAD design, computer-controlled mechanical (CNC) manufacturing, robotics, measurement and control technology on distributed systems (= several communicating, location-independent computers without shared memory) are brought together for industrial production. For a FabLab (from Fabrication Laboratory), this means a standard machine park with which the Green FabLab could also be equipped, supported by funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The figure shows an overview of the provisional machine installation plan.
